So, between not having an Income for 4 months, helping some friends get their business off the ground, starting my own company, and dealing with the powers-that-be passing the torch here at radiougly (formerly raginpitmagazine's ning), and a new singer and new cd being worked on by The Venting Machine, things have been crazy. And that probably won't stop for a while. So, while my postings have been, and will be, somewhat sporadic, I have found a minute of time to update you all on California's MJ legislation.

I took the time to call Tom Ammiano's office about A.B. 390. I wanted to know who could vote on the bill and when. They took about 24hrs. to respond to me, but they were very helpful. Here's the scoop: A.B. 390 is an "Assembly Bill", meaning that only people who hold a State Office can vote on it. Bummer for you and me unless we can get our Legislators to listen to us clearly when the time comes for the vote on this bill.

The nice folks at Mr. Ammiano's office did direct me to "Cannabis Tax 2010" (http://www.taxcannabis2010.org/), which is an organization that is working to get an initiative on the ballot for 2010. I believe that this will happen. According to the current Zogby poll, California is 56% in favor of legalizing marijuana for everyone in the state of California above the age of 21. According to the Zogby poll on the same question of legalization nationally, the entire U.S. is at 52% in favor of legalization. Not bad numbers if you ask me. If you get a minute, please check out their website. They'll need a few million signatures to get their initiative on the ballot, but I believe that shouldn't be too difficult.

So, it looks like 60+ years of our government's "Misinformation Campaign" is starting to break down. If you've done your history research, you'd see that alcohol became legal for some of the same reasons just after the Great Depression. If California does make marijuana legal for all people of age, the doors will start opening across the country, and we will see the end of marijuana prohibition. Here's hoping the future is brighter in 2010!
